Job Interview

Jul 25, 2007 Author: philip | Filed under: Business, Technology

When you are hiring a new employee you naturally want the best person for the role. In a candidate poor job market you need to realize that while you are interviewing the candidate, they are also interviewing you to see if they really want to work for you. You need to be on your game - to make sure you leave candidates with a great impression of your company.

So, let’s start with the basics. Interviews are not an exact science. They are not meant to be. The best you can do is to try and remove as much of the emotion of the process as possible and balance it with logic.

Interviews should be about helping candidates show their best side, it is not about tricking them, putting them under added stress and seeing how they “perform”. They are not seals; they are human beings complete with human feelings. Interviews are of themselves inherently stressful - so even in the most relaxed interview you are getting a person operating under stress.

Here are some tips to help you with your job interviews

Before the interview:

1) Make time in your diary for the interview. You need to show candidates the courtesy of being fully “present” at the interview. If you need to, hire additional staff to cover for you or close the shop for an hour.

2) Make sure there will be no interruptions. If you allow yourself to be interrupted during the interview you are giving candidates the message that when they work for you they are unimportant and will always be second best. Is that the message you really want to give?

This is the final article in this series about making your blog work for you instead of the other way around. In previous articles you’ve found places to shop for themes, personalized the theme, plugged-in options, and submitted a Google Sitemap. In this last article in this series you’ll learn a very cool way of submitting your site to many different bookmark sites at the same time.

Why bookmark?

Bookmarking is much like adding pages to your favorites file but with more power. Sites like Digg, Blinklist, and Furl give the user the opportunity to list their favorite sites or posts so that others can see them and visit also. These are a personal collection of bookmarks that you share with others and that create backlinks to your site. Users of the different social bookmark networks can add links to their own collection, subscribe to other’s lists and visit sites they would not have otherwise found.

There are many different social bookmarking sites on the Internet today. The list is pretty extensive. If you have to post your links to each of them it would take an hour a day.

Now there is a free service that you can use to bookmark approximate 19 different services all at once. After you’ve set up your account it literally takes 1 minute to bookmark 19 sites. And then you have 19 backlinks to your blog.

My friend is working in a door company and he invited me one day to install patio door to one his customers. Without any hesitation, I joined him in this wonderful journey with the truck of the company that he is employed. He told me about the GPS tracking device that is embedded on the truck and that they know where we are going and how long we will be staying there.

Rocky Mountain Tracking GPS systems are very important for a company to avoid the employee in milking time. Also they offer anti-theft and other tracking devices for teens and spouses for their safety.

Apples and Oranges

An adage is a time-tested truism, but some adages don’t ad up anymore. “A penny saved is a penny earned” has deflated in meaning because of inflation.

“Penny-wise and pound foolish” is an English adage. Here it would be more effective as an ad for Weight Watchers or Jenny Craig. Another truism about money is “A fool and his money are soon parted”. This one must explain Las Vegas.

Then there’s the one about saving for a rainy day. Because I live in Southern California, I wouldn’t save much - certainly not as much as people living in Seattle. Actually, it’s Prince Charles who should be saving for a reigny day.

Not all adages are about money. “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks” applies to politics. It means you won’t accomplish anything by taking Milk Bones into the United States Senate.

Pig ears are another dog treat. This makes me think the saying “Deaf as a door nail” should be changed to “Deaf as a pig”.
